Stoney Creek (Wintergreen) 3/13/2011

I went out this afternoon to look for more migrating ducks in the lakes and ponds, but it wasn't until I had walked about two miles when I saw four Wood Ducks and a pair of Hooded Mergansers in the pond behind my house - from the other side of the pond.

I did see lots of other birds: Crows, Cardinals, Bluebirds, Blue Jays, White-throated and Song Sparrows, Mourning Doves, House Finches, Dark-eyed Juncos, a Red-shouldered Hawk and a Belted Kingfisher. Highlight of the day was the uncommon (here) Black-capped Chickadee that I saw in the same place where I saw one 11 days ago. Perhaps the same bird. Look at the length of its tail!

It must be spring - mid-70s and the Eastern Painted Turtles are out.
