Stoney Creek (Wintergreen) 3/3/12

All photos are © Marshall Faintich

This morning started out very cloudy with the remnants of last night's rain. I got a mid-morning e-mail from my neighbor Frits that there ducks on Lake Monocan and some of the ponds, so I headed out to see what might be there. When I got to Lake Monocan, I saw a pair of Mallards and a lone male Ring-necked Duck. There was a male Hooded Merganser in Sawmill Creek pond #6, and a small flock of Mallards in the Hidden Creek pond.

The sun came out in the late afternoon, and Alice and I went for a hike. There was a male and a female Hooded Merganser in the Monocan golf course pond #1. When we got to Lake Monocan on the return half of our hike, we both counted a flock of 18 ducks in the lake, but I only count 17 in the photos. There were 14 Lesser Scaup and 3 Ring-necked Ducks, with males and female of both species.
