Walt Childs led a guided bird walk on the trail this morning for the Monticello Bird Club of Charlottesville, Virginia. The group started from the Rockfish River trail head at 8:30. I arrived at Glenthorne Loop at 9:00 and met up with the group. The total group species count for the morning was 50.
We had a good turn out (22 birders) for the hike, and the cool temperature and sunny sky made for an enjoyable hike.
Highlights included four raptor species, lots of sparrows, and our resident tail-less Turkey Vulture made two appearances for eveyone to get a good look at it.
