Rockfish Valley Trail 9/2/13

It was already hot and humid by the time I arrived at the trail around 9:00 a.m. I hiked along the Glenthorne Loop and downstream trails, and ended up with 25+ species. I met up with John D. (Charlottesville, VA) and Greg M. and Diane L. (Harrisonburg, VA). The combined list from all of our obeservations was 30+ by the time I left at 10:45, and the temperature then was 87 degrees. The only highlight of the morning was a juvenile Red-headed Woodpecker that was flying south, and then turned around and landed in a tree along Reids Creek.
