Rockfish Valley Trail 10/14/14

It has been raining off and on since yesterday morning, and heavy storms are expected later today and tomorrow. I wanted to get a birding hike in this morning, and I spent 45 minutes on the trail under dark skies and intermittent drizzle.

There was a good bit of activity on the trail, mostly sparrows, and I ended up with 20 species that included 7 sparrow species: Savannah, Swamp, Song, Field, White-crowned, White-throated, and Eastern Towhee. Chipping and Lincoln's Sparrows were probably there as well, but the rain increased, and I had to end the hike before I found these species this morning.
