Under cloudy skies and ahead of an approaching rainy cold front, Walt Childs and I did some birding this morning on the Rockfish Valley Trail. We ended up with 24 avian species. Highlights were six sparrow species: Song, Field, Swamp, Lincoln's, White-thoated, and Chipping; two warbler species: Palm and Yellow-rumped; large flocks of Cedar Waxwings; and our first-of-season Purple Finch.
