With bitterly cold temperatures and wide-spread snow across central Virginia, bird feeders were the place to be. My birding was constrained to periods of watching my bird feeder through a window, and I logged 15 avian species on the feeder, on the ground below the feeder, or in nearby trees waiting for an opening at the feeder.
There have been a few reports of Common Redpolls at feeders this winter here in Virginia, but I didn't see any at my feeder:
