Rockfish Valley 2/18/15

With bitterly cold temperatures and wide-spread snow across central Virginia, bird feeders were the place to be. My birding was constrained to periods of watching my bird feeder through a window, and I logged 15 avian species on the feeder, on the ground below the feeder, or in nearby trees waiting for an opening at the feeder.

There have been a few reports of Common Redpolls at feeders this winter here in Virginia, but I didn't see any at my feeder:

Downy Woodpecker
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Blue Jay
American Crow
Tufted Titmouse
Carolina Chickadee
White-breasted Nuthatch
Carolina Wren
Northern Cardinal
White-throated Sparrow
Dark-eyed Junco
Purple Finch
House Finch
Pine Siskin
