Lickinghole Creek and Reservoir, VA 9/15-16/16

Lickinghole Creek trail and reservoir can be a very good birding location. The trail now extends about 4 miles to Claudius Crozet Park. I went there on my own on September 15, and saw 35 avian species, including 5 warbler species: Blue-winged, Black and White, American Redstart, Magnolia, and Common Yellowthroat, as well as a Yellow-billed Cuckoo. Some of the trail around the reservoir was full of spider webs, and I played the role of "webmaster" by walking right into them!

I went back there on September 16 with Walt Childs, and we had 30 avian species, including 7 species I had not seen the day before, bringing my two day list to 42 species. We didn't see the Blue-winged or Magnolia Warblers, but saw the other three and added a Northern Parula. The escaped Black Swan was there both days, and was not included in my trip list.
