Old Trail; Crozet, VA 3/14/18

With temperatures just above freezing and 15 m.p.h. winds from the north, it felt quite cold when I hiked here in Old Trail. I saw a few avian species. The Red-winged Blackbirds have returned, and I saw a first year male perched with an adult male.

Both of our resident Red-shouldered Hawks were in the wetlands area, and it is uncommon to see both of them perched together away from their nest. It is easy to see the larger female in comparison with the male hawk.
