It was a beautiful morning to be out birding, and I took full advantage of it, hiking just under 5 miles in 3-1/2 hours, and ended up with 32 avian species here in Old Trail. I spent most of the first hour in the Albemarle County Western Park that is totally within Old Trail, and had 21 avian spieces there including 7 sparrow species.

I saw a male House Finch there, and I know that their coloring can be quite variable, but I don't remember ever seeing one so pink.

While in the park, I saw my first of three warbler species of the morning - a Common Yellowthroat. This species is a probable breeder in the park, and I wonder how long it will stay there before migrating for the winter.

Next stop was along the golf course pond. As I arrived, a Great Blue Heron flew in and was successful catching some meals.

I continued around the pond and up the hill along the golf course. I found a House Wren and a small flock of Palm Warblers (both yellow and western sub-species).
