With afternoon temperatures in the 90s and threats of afternoon thunderstorms, my birding options are to stay here in Old Trail during morning hours, go up on the Blue Ridge Parkway, or drive longer distances to the Allegheny Mountains and risk getting rained out. This morning, as well as two days ago, I opted to go birding here in Old Trail. I logged 20 to 25 avian species two days ago, and 25+ this morning, with a combined list of 32 avian species.

The highlight of these hikes was the continuing male Blue Grosbeak along Slabtown Branch Creek. I don't think that I had really noticed how much lighter the lower mandible is on this species before today's photos.
