Old Trail

It was cloudy again this morning, but not as bad or dreary as yesterday. I got a late start, but wanted to get some birding in before the remnants of Hurricane Zeta passes through here late tonight and tomorrow. In 2-1/2 hours, I ended up with 36 avian species, including 7 sparrow and 3 warbler species.

I started off along the golf course pond and fairway #1, where I saw my only Palm Warbler of the hike. There were two large flocks flying from tree to tree - Cedar Waxwings and Eastern Bluebirds.

From there, I hiked on the trail along the Western Park wetlands, and found a pair of Tennessee Warblers where I have been seeing them for a few days.

Once again, our "nutty" Great Blue Heron was fishing in the grass there. It must know me by now, as it let me slowly approach it to less than 10 feet away. And once again, I tried to tell it that there were more fish over in the ponds.

I finished my hike along Slabrown Branch Creek. During my hike I saw Yellow-rumped Warblers in three locations, and female Purple Finches twice.
