Old Trail; March 18-19

The crazy weather continues in central Virginia. I did a short, late morning hike on Saturday, and a longer morning hike on Sunday. On both hikes, the temperature was around 30 degrees with strong winds, and it was cold! But by the end of Sunday's hike, I had logged 27 avian species. I saw a pair of Swamp Sparrows in a location where I normally do not see this species, so they were most likely migrating through the area.

I saw a Song Sparrow with green supraloral feathers. I've seen this species white or yellow supraloral feathers, but never green. Perhaps it was Irish or it had sampled too much green beer on St. Patrick's Day :-)

The temperature was still around 30 degrees, but at least the winds had calmed down.

The weather finally started to get warmer, and I saw my first Pine Warbler of 2023.

It was still warm this morning, but heavily overcast, and I stopped my hike when it started to drizzle. I ended this week here in Old Trail with 43 avian species.
