There has been nothing typical about the fall 2012 migration season on the Rockfish Valley Trail. Birders have reported 19 warbler species on the trail so far this month, not to mention Olive-sided and Yellow-bellied Flycatchers, and Red-headed Woodpeckers. Walt Childs and I arrived at 8:30 a.m. at the Glenthorne Loop parking area this morning and in about two hours had 41 species including 5 warblers: Tennessee, Magnolia, Black-throated Green, Chestnut-sided, and Common Yellowthroat. Just a typical day for this year's fall migration!
