We dodged the first of two bullets today. We were supposed to get 1/4 to 1/2 inch of ice on Sunday, which would have meant downed power lines and a big mess, but we had less than 1/10 of an inch of ice. The birds really enjoyed our feeder today.

We dodged the second bullet today. The forecast was anywhere from one to seven inches of snow, but all we had was some morning rain/sleet. By 2 p.m., the sun was starting to come out, and I took a short hike here in Stoney Creek. I saw 16 species, most of them commonly seen here in the winter, but the highlights were a Swamp Sparrow in some tall grasses along the golf course, and a Hermit Thrush in the small pine forest at the end of our street.
