Rockfish Valley Trail

There were a few more birds here in the valley this morning than there were yesterday. Although the trail wasn't very "birdy," I did manage to log 23 species, including a flock of Eastern Meadowlarks in a field along the downstream trail.

Fall birds are starting to arrive. Two days ago I saw my first-of-season White-throated Sparrow here, and a short hike in the late morning added three more avian species to my list for the day. Swimming together in Sawmill Creek pond #3, there were a Pied-billed Grebe and what appears to be a juvenile male Northern Shoveler that is starting to get its adult plumage.
