February 10

The weather was even colder today. The high was 35 degrees combined with the same 20 to 30 mph winds, but at least it was sunny. It didn't take long for me to realize that the Savannah National Wildlife was the best place to go birding in the area, so I made the hour-long drive there once again. The wind chill was really cold when I arrived. I stopped at the same pair of canals soon after entering, but most of the small birds were still hunkered down.

I continued around the drive, stopping to see more water and wading birds, a few woodland birds, and alligators that were hiding in vegetation.

I made a second loop around the NWR in the afternoon. There were several large water areas between the exit and the entrance that were filled with several duck species, and an American Kestrel flew from a powerline.

I stopped at the field behind the entrance kiosk because I heard several avian species there. As I was heading back to my car, a fast-flying Merlin made a pass overhead.

I saw many of the same species that afternoon that I had seen earlier in the morning.
