I needed a break from unpacking boxes and other chores at our new home in Crozet, so I took the day off to do some birding. There were reports of a Baird's Sandpiper in Stuart's Draft, and if it were still there, it would be my life bird #616. Sure enough, when I arrived at the small pond across the street from the Target distribution center, there were three sandpipers foraging in the mud flats. All three were of different size. The two smallest ones were close in size, and were both Least Sandpipers. The other one was slightly larger, and was the reported Baird's Sandpiper.

I did some more birding at Ridgeview Park in Waynesboro, and along the first 12 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway, but didn't see much else worth reporting.
