It was hot and humid this morning. I wanted to see if any migrating warblers had come to Old Trail. As soon as I crossed Old Trail Drive and got on the hiking trail on the west side of the road, I heard and then saw my FOS Louisiana Waterthrush (my Old Trail species # 111). It continued singing from various perches, but stayed high up in the trees. Seeing it for the first time here this late in April was a bit of a surprise, and this warbler species usually shows up at the end of March, and as I had not seen any here for the past three weeks, I didn't think that one would be here. I hiked the trail down to the golf course pond and back.

I crossed back over Old Trail Drive and took the trail east along the creek. At the far eastern end of the trail, near Davis Street, I found my second singing Louisiana Waterthrush of the hike. This one came much closer to the lower tree branches.

Although I only had 23 avian species this morning, seeing the two Louisiana Waterthrushes and adding a new species to my Old Trail list was a treat. I hope that they spend the summer here.
