Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia 6/27/18

It was another bright and sunny day. Our first stop was at Peggy's Cove (population 76) on St. Margarets Bay. I expected to see shore and sea birds. I was surprised to see warblers (one Common Yellowthroat and two Yellow Warblers) and other woodland birds.

A Cedar Waxwing was feeding its mate. It might have been an offspring, but the bird being fed was past juvenile plumage.

Lunenburg, Nova Scotia 6/27/18

Our next stop was at Lunenburg. I collected postage stamps for more than 40 years, and specialized in British North American stamps for the last 20+ years. I also experimented with macrophotography, and took photos of my favorite stamps. Even though I sold my entire collection 21 years ago, I kept the photo of my most favorite stamp - the 50 cent Canadian Bluenose that was issued in 1929.

The Bluenose was a celebrated racing ship and fishing schooner, and became a provincial icon for Nova Scotia and an important Canadian symbol in the 1930s. The Bluenose continued as a working vessel until it was wrecked in 1946. The Bluenose was built in Lunenburg, and the Bluenose II, launched in 1963, is a replica of the original Bluenose, and was in port when when we were there.

We saw very few birds in Lunenburg, but there were several interesting jellyfish in the water next to the piers. I'm not an expert on jellyfish, but think that they were the Lion's Mane species.
