I only had time for a short hike this morning, so I birded along Slabtown Branch Creek near my house. I saw just a few species, but that included my first-of-season (FOS) White-throated Sparrow. I guess that autumn has finally arrived here.

I read reports of a lot of warblers up on the Blue Ridge Parkway yesterday, and would have liked to have gone there, but the mountains were shrouded with fog. So I decided to try Lickinghole Creek and Reservoir here in Crozet. Birds were few and far between, and I logged 15 avian species there.
Great Egret
Gray Catbird
Northern Cardinal
Downy Woodpecker
Brown Thrasher
I wasn't done birding this morning, so I hiked some more after returning to Old Trail, where I added 8 more avian species to my day list.
House Sparrows
Song Sparrow

Best bird of the day was my FOS White-crowned Sparrow at the north end of the soccer field. This species seems to be there evey winter.
