I had to do a grocery pick-up run between 10 and 11 this morning, so I birded here in Old Trail bewteen 9 and 10, and then again between 11 and 12. I started off along Slabtown Branch Creek near my house, and logged 15 avian species. The Solitary Sandpiper was still at the retention pond, but I didn't see the Spotted Sandpipers. On my return, the Solitary Sandpiper had its back feathers up - must have been trying to immitate a wren!

I heard a Louisiana Waterthrush singing along the creek, but could not see it. I've been seeing male Common Yellowthroats here since April 8, but got my first female of this species in 2020 this morning.

On my second trip out, I went over to the wetlands area of Western Park, and had at least three Yellow Warblers. Two of them were near the soccer field. One was a male (photos below), but I couldn't get a good enough look at the other one to see if it was a female. I picked up another Yellow Warbler near the lodge. I heard Common Yellowthroats in several places, and saw one male.

I added 14 more avian species this time, giving me 29 species for the day.

I stopped to look at our resident Red-shouldered Hawk's nest, and this time saw two little ones in the nest.
