I had planned to meet Tink Moyer on Route 610 near the start of the Blue Ridge Parkway, but there was dense fog in the mountains this morning. So Tink met me here in Old Trail in Crozet, and we went to look for the Connecticut Warbler I had seen yesterday. We didn't find it, but had 15 avian species in 30 minutes, including a quick view of a Common Yellowthroat and a couple of Yellow-rumped Warblers.

After about 30 minutes, it looked like the fog was lifting, so we decided to go up to Route 610 as originally planned. But we were only seeing the first ridge of the mountains from Crozet, and there was still fairly dense fog when we got to 610. We saw a few birds near the start, including two more warbler species.

We continued south on 610, and as we neared the intersection with mm. 4 of the parkway, there was a lot of avian activity. The fog was starting to clear, and the birds were coming out to forage. At first, we saw lots of Golden-crowned Kinglets and a few Ruby-crowned Kinglets, and had Carolina Chickadees, Tufted Titmice, and White-breasted Nuthatches. We also saw Red-eyed and Blue-headed Vireos.

And then we had a mixed flock of warblers.

A Pine Warbler also showed up. It must have been a young bird, as its facial markings, broader wing bars, and yellow feet looked a bit unusual.

We turned around, and headed back north. By 12:30, the fog finally lifted.

We ended the outing with 30+ avian species, including 9 warbler species.
