Old Trail; November 26

A front moved in from the south overnight, producing some rain and ushering in warmer temperatures. By the time I went out, there was good sunshine, and a lot of people were out and about on this Thanskgiving Day. I had time to hike all of my regular trails, and saw 33 avian species toda, including 14 avian species that I had not seen yesterday. This gave me a two day total of 38 avian species here in Old Trail; noticeably missing were Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Mourning Dove, and a handful of species I often see here this time of year. All of the people forced many of the birds deep into the vegetation, and it was a challenge to see what I did find.

And on this day each year, I remember a Wild Turkey that I tried to save on Thanksgiving Day in 2009. It was caught up in some thorny tangles, and as I approached it to get it free, it moved away and deeper into the tangles, and got stuck even more. I finally had to give up, and knew that some fox would have a Thanksgiving meal later that day.
