Old Trail

It was overcast, cold, and windy this morning. Many of the birds were either hunkered down, or perched with their feathers fluffed to stay warm. I only had 26 avian species this morning, but ended my hike with a cooperative, male Pileated Woodpecker. Notice how it uses its long tongue to extract insects.
