There was heavy cloud cover this morning mixed with a few rain drops, but I wanted to get out before the expected rains ahead of a forecasted cold front moved into the area. The dark skies made for grainy photos, but I had a good outing. About an hour after I went out, I had to stop as it started drizzling, but I still ended up with 37 avian species, including my First of Season (FOS) Blue-headed Vireo, FOS Brown Thrasher, and FOS Rusty Blackbirds. I also saw my FOS Louisiana Waterthrush here in Old Trail, although I had seen this species six days ago in Waynesboro. The Virginia "Gold Book" shows the early date for Blue-headed Vireos as April 10, so the one I saw this morning was very early.
