Old Trail; April 23

I had errands to run this morning, and did a short hike when I returned, from 11:00 a.m. to noon, and ended up with 22 avian species, including my first of season (FOS) Green Herons. Two of them were along one of the retention ponds.

Route 610; April 24

Birdcast showed moderate migration through central Virginia, so I want to see if any warblers had moved in overnight. It was getting cloudy, with rain forecasted for later today. I drove up to Route 610 between mm. 2 and mm. 4 of the Blue Ridge Parkway. I soon encountered a very cooperative Hooded Warbler.

I heard a Black and White Warbler, but couldn't see it. A little farther south on 610, I heard another one, and this time got my FOS Black and White Warbler.

I heard, but couldn't see, five Ovenbirds at various stops along 610, but number 6 near mm. 4 of the parkway was cooperative and gave me another FOS warbler species.
