A cold front moved through the area, and when I went out birding on the 16th, 18th, and 19th, it was quite windy. The winds calmed down this morning (10/21), and birding was much better. I ended up with 34 avian species during this period, including two first of season species for me: Lincoln's Sparrow (2), and wintering Red-winged Blackbirds. I also got some quick views of a Magnolia Warbler on October 18th, and this matches the latest extreme late date for this species in the Virginia Piedmont according to the Virginia "Gold Book."

I've photographed hundreds of Cedar Waxwings, but this was the first time I photographed one eating something other than a berry! It must have needed some protein in its diet.
