Crozet, VA 2/3/2023

I hadn't been to the Lickinghole Creek and Basin for almost a year, and decided to give it a try this morning. Although I ended up with 26 avian species, I was a bit disappointed. There wasn't a single duck or goose on the basin, not a single shore bird on the gravel bar, and it appeared that the Bald Eagle nest had been abandoned.

Best photos of the day were a sequence of shots of a pair of Red-shouldered Hawks. I thought that I was going to catch a series of mating photos, as this is the right time of year for that activity, but I guess they they didn't want to perform in front of a camera. :-)
